The word that comes to mind most often when talking about Joseph is “unique”. A unique voice, unique timbre, memory, repertoire – from a great variety of Soviet songs to classical and Russian folk. He is a unique friend whose friendship is valued highly by people from very different social layers – from stage hands to presidents. A unique person who cannot be indifferent to the pain and suffering of others… But why carry on with the list? Joseph Kobzon is a singer for all times. He sings because he cannot not to. He has beaten all the records for the number of songs sung and the length of recitals. One of his gala concerts went on for 8 hours! He can sing with orchestras of very different genres, and acapella. This is what he is about. He has sung in every major country of the world; he is known and loved everywhere. Looking at the list of Kobzon’s awards and distinctions, you would be hard put to guess where he was born or where he currently lives. Who are you really? Joseph Davydovich’s answer to this question would be simple: “I am a citizen of the world.”
