Ruslan Aushev, President of Ingushetia, 1993-2001, Hero of the Soviet Union
Dear Joseph Davydovich! For people of the older generation your name evokes the loveliest memories of turbulent, romantic youth and of grandiose Komsomol Construction Projects which you visited, more than once, with concert tours. Your image has kept, and given focus to, all the best there was in the Soviet Union. You sang, on many occasions too, for our soldiers in Afghanistan and your songs boosted their morale and fortitude. You are still an “Afghan soldier” since no Afghan veterans’ celebration goes without you. Everybody knows about your mighty talent, your humanity and respectful, caring attitude to others. I would like to add to it that you are also an eminent politician and an important public figure. You are the flagship of Russian culture. I am proud of, and hold dear, our brotherly relations of many years.
